2791 Streets Ferry Road Vanceboro, NC 28586
This 90 acre park is located at 2791 Streets Ferry Road in Vanceboro, across the street from West Craven High School. This park was dedicated on April 25, 2009 and offers the following for the public's use: three youth baseball/softball fields (two are lighted), one 300' baseball field, restroom/concession building, playground for ages 5-12 with swings, 6 tennis courts, four multipurpose fields that can be used for football, soccer or lacrosse (one is lighted) and a walking trail. This park was developed with assistance from a $500,000 State Parks & Recreation Trust Fund Grant. The sandy soil makes this park an attractive location for tournaments since the quick drainage allows the athletic fields to be playable after a heavy rain.
It is our desire that this park serve the citizens, especially in the western part of Craven County, by offering opportunities for all ages to enjoy recreation activities. West Craven Park is home to West Craven Little League and West Craven Pop Warner football league. West Craven High School uses the tennis courts for their home matches as well as practices areas for men's soccer and cross country. West Craven High & Middle School baseball and softball teams use the fields on occasion for practices and games. We hope to add a picnic shelter in the near future for birthday parties and family gatherings.
The park will be open daily from 8:00 AM to dusk, with the park staying open longer for scheduled games and practices. Groups wishing to use the tennis courts or athletic fields are asked to call the Craven County Recreation & Parks Department (252-636-6606) to make reservations.
