Classes & Programs

Karate class meets every Tuesday night in the Gym at H.J. MacDonald Middle School. Class will resume January 6, 2009. Ages 3-7 meet at 7:00 pm-7:30pm and ages 8-adult meet from 7:30 pm-9:00 pm. Craven County Special Olympics will hold their local basketball competitions for the middle/high school groups on Wednesday, February 3rd and the adult/independent groups will compete on February 17th at the West New Bern Recreation Center. The competition starts at 10:00 am and volunteers are encouraged to be there by 9:30 am. Adult beginner tennis lessons will start Tuesday, March 9th at West New Bern Recreation Center. Classes are from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm every Tuesday, for four weeks. Fee for the class is $45. Dog obedience class will start Wednesday, March 10th at Creekside Park. Class is from 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm every Wednesday night, for six weeks. Fee for the class is $70. Sports/Leagues

The New Bern Babe Ruth Girls Softball League will have spring registration at the New Bern Mall Saturday, February 20th & 27th at 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. Girls ages 5-18 are eligible to play. Cost to play is $35. If you are a first-time player, please provide a copy of your birth certificate at the time of registration. For more information, contact Anita Williford at 1505A S. The spring Co-ed Softball League starts their season on Friday, April 9th. The deadline to enter a team, which includes a $100 non-refundable deposit is Friday, March 19th. NEW - An organizational meeting for men's softball will be held on Tuesday, March 9th at 6:00 pm in the Craven County Administration building. Anyone interested in entering a team or playing men's softball at Creekside Park is urged to attend. For more information regarding this league, contact our office at (252) 636-6606

NEW - Craven County Recreation is currently accepting registration for a newly created co-ed kickball league for adults. The league, which is set to begin on Tuesday, April 13th, will feature a five game schedule. Each kickball team will consist of a minimum of four female and five male players. Players must be at least 16 years of age. Games will be played on Tuesday nights at Creekside Park. Team registration continues Friday, March 26th. Entry fee per team is $100. The Vanceboro Youth Basketball League is playing games on Saturdays, in the gym at Vanceboro Farm Life Elementary School. The season runs through February.
